Sleep
Sleep
An integral part of health after food and water and oxygen , sleep would probably be one of the things that would definitely impact health.
In Chinese, Medicine sleep is seen as one of the more important aspects of health as it is usually one of those things that are asked about during the initial 10 questions.
Difficulties with getting sleep, staying asleep, dreaming, and waking up rested can all be aspects that may paint a picture of some imbalances that may be happening that herbs and acu-moxa will try to help with.
In a recent book “Exercised”, Daniel Leiberman discussed many different factors that may differ from an evolutionary perspective. One aspect brought up was the idea having to sleep through the night. While 8 hours of sleep may be a societal norm of proper sleep hours this may not entirely match evolutionary norms found in some cultures eho are still hunter/gather.
These cultures would sleep in what seem to be shifts. Having to stand gaurd from night time threats like predators or attacks eoulf have been one reason.
Reminds me of fire guard in Basic Training. The group shared the responsibilties of sleep and gaurding their tribe. So sleep would typically not be in this straight 8 hour chunk format. It was more likely to come in chunks.
In any case no matter how folks sleep an idea of the quality can be more of an accurate picture of how sleep is going.
While the magical number of 8 hours a day may be the norm, evolutinarily it may not have any significance. Instead one should focus on simple questions.
Are you happy with how you sleep?
Do you wake up rested?
How is your energy level?
Chinese Herbal Formulas along with constitutional Acu-moxa treatments can be a helpful tool in the regulation of imbalance sleeping patterns along with other aspects of sleep.
