Session 3

The Sideline

Focus: The relationship between the pelvis, rib cage and shoulder girdle.

Results: Expanded breathing, greater relaxation and more immediately available energy.

In the 3rd session of this Structural Integration series, we access the complete sideline of the body and all the connective tissues and structures that unwind in this bioflow.

In the typical progression of the series, there would usually be 3 sections or sets of sessions. Session1-3 are what I was taught to be the beginning portions known as the sleeve or outer layers. These first introductory sessions set the stage by working on these more superficial tissues to prepare for the deeper work that will follow.

Session 3, in particular, has a focus on working on getting more freedom in a couple of different places. One aspect is the shoulder girdle getting freed from the ribcage. The other aspect of the session starts initial work on the capsule of the hip girdle as well as trying to get some freedom in the articulation of the hip and its association with the sacrum.

While back pain is common not all back pain is created equal. In this session we start diving into some of the particular places/tissues that seem to be the most common causes to include:

Sacral Iliac Joint tissue

Mutifidi in the lower spine/sacrum

Hip capsule Rotators( Glute complex, piriformis etc.)

In the upper back, common tissues worked on that cause upper back issues including those of the scapula( Trapezius complex, Rhomboids, Serratus Anterior, Pectoralis complex)

This session can be an introduction to the client of the bioflow/tensigrity complex that is the body’s tissues. Everything is connected.
