Chinese Herbal Medicine: Patents

Here in the states, most people may have home remedies or over-the-counter medication or supplements that have been associated with certain conditions.

I.e. something akin to tablets for indigestion or your basic over-the-counter cold medicine or other home remedies like taking ginger ale for an upset stomach.

In Chinese Herbal Medicine some formulas have been used for long periods of time, so much so that they become synonymous with certain conditions.

As opposed to some of the classical formulas where they can be augmented and changed to fit a particular diagnosis that your provider comes up with, these specific formulas are used more as a type of quick remedy or tonic.

Curing Pills is typically one that has been noted when having a sort of hangover or when someone has overindulged in food or drink. In some cases, some folks even keep it around when doing some traveling.

How was the holiday? A little indulgent?

In my clinic, I like to carry tinctures of some of the more prescribed formulas.

As mentioned before Curing Pills and Bao He Wan are usually used for some GI upset. Its always a good idea to have a little around. In my clinic, I prefer the tincture versions as they give the client easy-to-carry-around access to the herbal formula which can usually aid in the ability to take the herbs consistently.
